How to use the rammer (jumping-jack)

The rammer compacts by impact: the shoe jumps and kneads the soil. It's the king of the narrow trench and cohesive soil (clay, silt).

Coming soon

In the meantime, follow the step-by-step guide.

  1. 01

    Pre-start check

Engine and percussion-case oil level, clean air filter and fuel. Shoe free of cracks and loose bolts.

  2. 02

    Start at idle

Start and let it warm a few seconds at idle. The rammer shouldn't jump until you give it throttle.

  3. 03

    Full throttle to work

At half throttle it bounces and gets unruly. Full throttle delivers all the impact force and it self-advances: you just steer.

  4. 04

    Compact in lifts

Lifts of 20–30 cm max. Thicker than that and the bottom never reaches density. Let the machine set the travel pace.

  5. 05

    Overlap your passes

3 to 4 passes per lift, overlapping each lane. Corners and up against the wall — that's where the rammer beats the plate.

Do this

  • Keep the shoe flat against the ground, not tilted.
  • Bring the soil to optimum moisture: it compacts far better.
  • Let it self-advance; your job is to steer, not push.

Avoid this

  • Don't expect miracles on dry loose granular: cohesive soil is its job.
  • Don't run it half-throttle — it bounces and punishes your wrists.
  • Never leave it running while laid on its side.

Safety

  • Steel-toe boots, anti-vibration gloves and hearing protection.
  • Keep feet clear of the shoe: the impact is unforgiving.
  • In a trench, check the slope and shoring before climbing down.

Applications

Frequently asked

Which compactor do I need for my soil?

Vibratory plate for granular soil, pavers and open areas; rammer (jumping-jack) for trenches and cohesive soils; roller for large areas and asphalt. Tell us the job and we'll recommend the machine.

Diesel, gasoline or electric?

Gasoline (Honda) for general, portable use; diesel for heavy duty and rollers; electric where emissions aren't allowed. All run world-brand engines.

Does it include warranty and parts?

Yes: 6-month factory warranty, parts in stock and local after-sales at every distributor (ConstruMarket — CMARKET in Guatemala).
