Jobsite safety

Before running light equipment, put on full PPE — hard hat, glasses, hearing protection, gloves, a hi-vis vest and steel-toe boots — and run the checklist: levels with no leaks, area clear, guards in place, and knowing how to shut the machine off. If you work on the road, close off the front with 28″ cones, channelizer drums and caution tape before you start.

The safest machine is the one operated right. PPE on and checklist done, always.

Working on the road: lane closure

Advance warning, a taper with cones or drums, a fenced-off work zone and an end-of-zone marker. Distances depend on the road and on what local authorities require.

How to sign a single-lane closurePlan view of a two-lane road with traffic moving from bottom to top; the right lane is closed. In order, from where the driver arrives: first the advance warning zone, with a sign ahead of the work. Then the taper: a diagonal row of cones or drums that steers traffic into the other lane. Then the work zone, bounded with mesh or tape, with the crew inside wearing reflective vests. Last, the end of the closure, where cones return the lane. Distances and the number of cones depend on the traffic plan approved for the job, so the diagram has no measurements.!End of closureThe lane opensagain.Work zoneBounded with meshor tape. FAQ

What people ask most

What PPE do I need to run light equipment?

Hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hi-vis vest and steel-toe boots. All on before you start, not once the machine is already running.

What do I check before starting a machine?

That you have all your PPE, levels with no leaks, the area clear of people, guards in place, and that you know how to stop it or where the kill switch is. If one is missing, don't start.

How do I set up signage for roadwork?

Warn ahead of the work front, taper traffic with cones or drums, fence off the work zone and mark the end. SIMAQ offers 28″ cones, 91 cm channelizer drums with reflective bands and caution tape; distances depend on the road and on what local authorities require.

Is a vest enough if I'm working near traffic?

No: the vest makes you visible, but the lane gets closed with cones, drums or delineator posts before work starts. Working without fencing off the front is a common mistake that exposes the whole crew.

Which hi-vis vest should I wear on site?

A high-visibility one with reflective strips. SIMAQ has a cyan mesh vest, with one horizontal strip and two on the shoulders, and an orange one with PVC strips front and back.
