5 minHow to use the trench roller
A remote-control trench roller compacts trench floors and backfill in clay soil while the operator drives it from outside, at a safe distance. The SIMAQ SQRPTRC L202 has padfoot drums, a 20 HP Honda GX690 engine and an articulated joint to steer around obstacles. Work in 20–30 cm lifts with 4–6 overlapping passes, always keeping the machine in sight.

Charge the remote
Check the transmitter battery and that the infrared beam between remote and machine is clean and aligned.

Levels and drums
Engine and hydraulic oil. Padfoot lugs free of packed-in material between them.

Operate from outside the trench
Lower it by sling from the lifting point and drive from the surface. Never inside the trench with the machine.

Lifts and passes
20–30 cm lifts, 4–6 overlapping passes. The padfoot kneads cohesive soil from the bottom up.

Use the articulated joint
The articulated joint steers around covers and obstacles without tearing up fresh work. Smooth turns.

- Respect the remote's range; don't drift too far.
- Clean the padfoot lugs at the end of the shift.

- Don't climb into the trench to adjust it while running.
- Don't use it as a finish smooth roller: it leaves lug marks.
- Don't operate with the trench shoring in poor condition.

- Exclusion zone: no one else in front of the machine.
- Slope and shoring checked before any maneuver.

What people ask about the trench roller
What is a padfoot roller for?
For compacting clay or silty soils: the lugs dig in and knead the soil from the bottom up. On sand or gravel, a plate or a smooth-drum roller performs better.
Remote-control or walk-behind trench roller: which one?
Deep trench or questionable walls → remote control (SQRPTRC L202), so nobody goes down with the machine. Shallow and stable → the walk-behind SQRDPWB L102.
How many passes on a trench floor?
4 to 6 overlapping passes per 20–30 cm lift. If the lift is thicker, the bottom stays loose.
What's the most dangerous trench-roller mistake?
Climbing into the trench to adjust the machine with the engine running, or losing sight of it. Shut it off before approaching and always drive it from outside.
How often does it need an oil change?
On the SQRPTRC L202, the first engine-oil change is at 50 hours and then every 500 hours; check the level every 10 hours.
