Routine 1 · Before starting: levels, leaks and filter
Most light-equipment failures don't come from the factory: they come from maintenance that didn't happen. The morning check takes two minutes and catches almost everything before it turns into a repair.
- Engine oil level with the machine level; on the rammer, the percussion-case oil too.
- Clean fuel, enough for the shift.
- Air filter: jobsite dust clogs it fast.
- Leaks, cracked hoses and frayed cables.
- Guards and covers in place.
Routine 2 · At the end: cleaning and bolts
Set concrete and stuck asphalt are a machine's worst enemies. Wash the mixer, the trowel and the vibrator at the end of the shift, before the material hardens. On rollers, clean the drums and check the water sprinklers aren't clogged.
Vibration loosens bolts. A turn of the wrench at the end of the day keeps you from losing a part on site or cracking a base. Plates, rammers, rollers and saws are the machines that need it most.
Routine 3 · Oil by the hour, not the calendar
On a new Honda GX engine, the first change comes early (manual reference: about 20 hours). After that, the general reference is every ~100 hours or 6 months, whichever comes first, and more often in dust or at full load. Your unit's exact intervals are in the engine manual.
To know when it's due, log the hours. One logbook per machine, posted in the yard or on the foreman's phone, is the habit that adds the most life to an engine.
Routine 4 · Fresh fuel and dry storage
Stale gas varnishes the carburetor and is one of the most common failures on machines stored for weeks. If a machine will sleep more than a month, shut the fuel valve and let the carburetor run dry. Store everything under a roof and covered: the weather rusts parts that never failed on site.

Register the machine: warranty and parts
