How to use the pallet truck

Use a pallet jack by sliding the forks fully under the pallet, pumping the handle until the pallet just clears the floor, and pushing it rather than pulling. SIMAQ has 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0-tonne pallet jacks and the GSF1 PRO scissor lift pallet truck (1,000 kg). Never exceed rated capacity or take it down steep ramps loaded.

Also called: pallet jack, pallet truck, hand pallet truck

The pallet truck moves pallets at floor level with minimal effort. Picking the load right and pushing (not pulling) protects your back.

  1. 01

    Enter fully under the pallet

Insert the forks all the way, centered, sharing the weight across both.

  2. 02

    Pump to lift

Work the handle until the pallet just clears the floor. No higher than needed.

  3. 03

    Push, don't pull

Move it by pushing from behind: more control and easier on your back. Watch your path.

  4. 04

    Lower with the release lever

At the destination, use the release to set the pallet and pull the forks out straight.

Do this

  • Spread the weight evenly across both forks.
  • Push the load; save pulling for short maneuvers.
  • Respect the capacity (2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 t).

Avoid this

  • Don't move unstable or poorly stacked loads.
  • Don't use it on steep ramps with a load.
  • Don't leave the forks up in a walkway.

Safety

  • Steel-toe boots and gloves.
  • Mind your feet when lowering the load.
  • Clear aisles and even floors.

Fork height versus the pallet openingFront view of a pallet with its two openings and the pallet truck's two forks inside. At its minimum height the fork has to fit into the pallet opening; raised, it reaches its maximum height and lifts the load. FAQ

What people ask about the pallet truck

What pallet jack capacity do I need?

The heaviest pallet you'll move, with a margin: 2.0 t for general loads, 2.5 or 3.0 t for warehouses with heavy loads. The guide on choosing pallet jack capacity has the detail.

Will the pallet jack fit any pallet?

It depends on the forks' lowered height: 75 mm on the 2.0 and 3.0 t models, 85 mm on the 2.5 t. Measure your pallets' opening before choosing.

Pallet jack, stacker or lift pallet truck: which one?

Just moving pallets at floor level → pallet jack. Putting them into racking → stacker. Working the load at waist height → the GSF1 PRO scissor lift pallet truck.

What maintenance does a pallet jack need?

1–2 drops of oil on the pivot joints every 3 months, and a pump hydraulic-oil change once a year.

What's the most common pallet-jack mistake?

Pulling it loaded, walking backwards down long aisles: you lose control and strain your back. Push it and watch where you're going.
